Hornblower Class Blog

Another busy week in Hornblower

In Learning Means The World this week, we learned about Sir Ranulph Fiennes' Transglobe Expedition. We tried to get a flavour of what it was like by exploring the hall with 'snow' swirling around us, created by our class fans! Both children and adults enjoyed this, and it led to some lovely diary writing. The children were particularly fascinated by how Fiennes enjoyed a game of cricket when he reached the South Pole!

In Maths, we continued to explore measuring lengths and heights. We looked at the difference between centimetres and metres, and had lots of fun imagining everyday objects being given the wrong units of measurement. For example, a 5cm long car and 25m long shoes!

In English, we imagined Rusty the dog exploring our classroom and the mischief he might have caused. The class approached the idea of canine classroom destruction with great relish! Some excellent ideas involving water bottle fountains, lunch box raids and toilet roll ribbons were explored... along with our grammar focus of using adverbs, adjectives and possessive apostrophes!

Thank you for the excellent home learning we have received from some of the class. They were really proud to see their work displayed on our new Home Learning wall at the end of the week. I wonder what might make it onto the wall this week?

Finally, we hope parents who are able to attend really enjoy the dance performance in Praise Assembly on Friday.
