Esk News!

The sun is shining and we have been enjoying it!

In Maths we have used balancing scales to say whether an object is lighter, heavier or equal.

In English we went on a virtual tour around Ripon.  We found some interesting facts!

  • Ripon used to have a train station until it was closed in the 1960s.
  • There is a street called Lavender Alley. It was nicknamed this as a joke because it actually was a street filled with rubbish!
  • Every night at 9pm the Hornblower blows his horn at the four corners of the obelisk.
  • The obelisk was built in 1703 and has a replica of the original horn at the top.
  • King Charles went to prison in Ripon!

In Guided Reading we are continuing to read 'Amazing Animal Journeys'.  We learnt about the migration of red crabs, monarch butterflies, wildebeest and free-tailed bats.

In Spelling we learnt about words that contain the 'ch' digraph but make the 'k' sound. For example, ache, Christmas, echo, choir, school and anchor. We included these words in a range of sentences.
