Laver Class Post
Hello and Happy Advent! We are on the countdown to Christmas and the children have been very excited about a recent visitor to our classroom, Jingle the elf! Jingle has been doing some mischievous things like rubbing out the whiteboard and reading our class books!
We have had a fabulous week of learning in Laver, with a new topic in Maths and house making in Art.
In English, we have started a new story called 'The High Street' by Alice Melvin. Alice Melvin is the illustrator and author. Elenoa said "she's an artist like Dali" and she's absolutely right. The book's illustrations are beautiful, and we love opening the different flaps to reveal the inside of each shop.
In Maths, we have started a new topic of 'Geometry' we have been exploring different 3D and 2D shapes. We went on a 2D shape hunt around our outdoor area and found lots of different shapes. Eva spotted that the front of our house looked like a pentagon and Oliver was blown away by the fact that there were shapes "literally everywhere".
In Learning Means the World we have been continuing our topic of 'Unity in the Community' and have been exploring creating musical sounds for different signs and symbols. This is to support us with the concept of musical notation, and we came up with brilliant sounds to match the signs and symbols.
In Art, we have been creating houses. We have shown brilliant cutting skills and determination to make our houses the best they can be. We had to show resilience to keep going when we found things tricky.
Finally, we have been continuing to perfect our songs for the upcoming Nativity. We are brilliant at singing and understand the importance of this time in the Christian calendar. It feels good to get right into the Christmas spirit!
P.S. Thank you so much to everyone that provided us with cardboard boxed and plastic bottles!
