Laver Blog Post
Hello and welcome to another blog post. Can you believe we are already three weeks into the new term! Here's what team Laver have been up to this week...
In English we have been writing our own stories, for a class book titled 'Rabbit's Bad Birthday'. Our stories are inspired by our class story of 'Boa's Bad Birthday'. We have been working hard to make sure we include Miss Lee's non-negotiables: Capital Letters, Full Stops and Finger Spaces! A special shout-out goes to Abel for his brilliant use of adjectives and conjunctions in his story. Well done!
In Learning Means The World, we have continued to explore the world of the Victorians. The children have explored different Victorian toys, including spinning tops, yo-yos and using chalk boards instead of whiteboards. We have also been comparing the lives of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. We were captivated by Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. Hollie-May said 'this is in black and white, but the King's coronation was in colour'. Great comparison Hollie-May! Children also had some fantastic questions about the lives of the two Queens. Oliver asked 'Did they both wear the same crowns?' Ruby asked 'Are they in the same family?' And, Leila asked 'Do you think they would have been friends?' We have some very curious minds in our classroom. On Monday, we will be having a 'Victorian School Day' and we're all very excited! We are going to have little taste of what the school day was like for children in Victorian times.
In Art, we have been creating still-life drawings of the Victorian toys that we have been playing with. It was tricky to draw the spinning top and we have to think carefully about the shapes we could see when drawing.
In RE we have continuing our work on the Easter story as we look to Spring. We have learnt some very big important vocabulary recently, including 'Salvation' and 'Incarnation'. This week we are exploring 'The Big Frieze' which is a piece of artwork that helps us to understand the Bible.
Finally, children have shown wonderful skills in our new topic of Dance in PE. We have been considering different emotions and what movements match those emotions. Thomas Bean used great vocabulary when praising another child's dance routine. He said 'I loved their travelling steps'.
