Wensley Blog 30.1.25

Welcome to another busy week in Wensley!

We have had a very interesting week learning all about the history of women's football. We were shocked at how the Football Association banned it for over 50 years! Yes, 50 years! During the First World War, women's football was so popular that the men and the FA got worried it would be bigger and more popular than the mens game, so they banned women from playing in all major stadiums. As a class, we were shocked and confused that this was allowed to happen. We discussed prejudice and sexism. What do you think?

We loved our gymnastics session this week. We have been learning how to do fabulous cartwheels, round offs and over the shoulder rolls. I have been very impressed with the progress made by everyone and we had lots of fun working in groups helping and encouraging each other. Roseanne said, 'I really enjoyed making a sequence with my group and practising my cartwheels and round offs.'

In RE, we have been looking closely at who was responsible for the death of Jesus. We looked at different scenarios from the bible and we translated the stories into artwork and drama. Kacper chose to draw The Good Shepherd because when we move away from God he helps guide us back to him - just like a shepherd.

In Guided Reading we managed to finish our story called When We Were Warriors by Emma Carroll and were surprised by the not very spooky ending.  We had convinced ourselves that we would find lots of ghosts! We have made brilliant designs for our own front covers, including lots of clues about the story, but without giving too much away.
