Laver Blog Post

Hello and welcome to another blog! What a fab week of learning this week!
This week it is Children's MentalHealth Week and we have been exploring our emotions. We have created colours to represent those emotions and throughout the week have been checking in with ourselves by adding a coloured lollipop stick to our names. We have noticed that we feel lots of different emotions throughout the day and this is OK. In fact, it makes us strong!
In Learning Means the World this week we have been working with Shackleton. Hollie-May and Eva found the United Kingdom flag whilst reading together in the reading corner, great find girls! This week we have been learning about the continents and oceans that make up the world. We love the continents song, it’s so catchy and it has really helped us to remember all 7 continents! Special shoutout to Ruby for getting stuck into our Geography discussions and trying her best to remember all of the continents!
In English we have been continuing to explore our new story ‘Bonkers about Beetroot’. We created our own Titles by generating synonyms for ‘bonkers’ and considering different fruit or vegetables we could write about. Some class favorites include; ‘Weird about Watermelon’ and ‘Crackers about Celery’. We wrote our own class story called ‘Silly about Peppers’, with the characters lovely chick and silly pig.
In Maths, we are continuing to develop our understanding of addition and subtraction to 20. This week we have been focusing on subtraction and trying different methods to support our understanding. Most of us have preferred to use a number line to count backwards but, some have enjoyed finding the difference with base 10.
In RE, we have continued to share our views and develop our understanding of the Easter Story. This week we looked at how Christians celebrate Holy Week, specifically Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We were a little confused at first to why Good Friday was called ‘good’ Friday… Lewis gave a fantastic explanation and told us that ‘Jesus died to save us so, that’s good’. Great work Lewis! Elenoa said ‘on Good Friday we pray and think about Jesus dying’ and Oliver said ‘Why do we have chocolate eggs on Easter?’ It was a brilliant discussion about the events of Holy Week and the children had some many great ideas to share.
