Laver Class Blog
Hello and what a fantastic first week back after half term! The children have come back raring to go and it’s been lovely to have some sunshine for more time in our outside area.
In Learning Means the World this week we have been exploring foods around the world we come to the end of our Geography topic. The children predicted where we import fruits from around the world, we even found out the chocolate comes from a plant that is predominantly grown in Ghana. We decided this makes chocolate one of our five a day!
In English we have started a new book titled ‘A Hidden World: Ocean’. This is a non-fiction book. Leila gave us a brilliant definition of a non-fiction text explaining that it is ‘full of facts’. We discover lots about the different animals that live in the ocean. Oliver reminded us what a habitat was from last term and Cheska said that the eel looked “terrifying!”
In Maths, we have been using base 10 to make the numbers, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50. We have also been exploring how many tens and ones are in different 2 digit numbers. The children have shown great understanding of how to use base 10 to develop their understanding and support their independent learning skills.
In Mastering Number this week we have been using the rekenreks to develop further our understanding of the different numbers that make up to 10. The children showed great teamwork skills, by helping their partner to show the addition number sentence on the rekenrek. Special shoutout to Oliver and Lewis for finding a solution that meant they could both have a go and keep it fair. Great problem solving skills aswell as great maths skills on show!
In PE we have been doing pulse raising activities to then find and measure our pulse before and after exercise. After completing circuits outside, Ruby said “I feel like my body is working really hard” and Esther said “mine is much faster now”.
