Laver Class Blog

Hello and welcome to another blog post.We have had another fantastic week in Laver, full of learning and laughter!

In English this week we have begun exploring a new book titled 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin. We have loved clapping out the rhythm to the book to demonstrate the sound of a moving train. Hollie-May said "we sound like a whole class choo-choo train!". We have loved working as a team to tell the story.

In Maths, we have continued to become secure in our ability to answer additional questions. Including, answering word problems. It has been tricky to decide what calculation to use after reading a word problem, and we have been working hard to use visuals to support our learning.

We are continuing with our topic of 'Unity in the Community' in Learning Means the World. At the start of the week we used our acting skills to create freeze frames to demonstrate the kindness that people in our community show to help others. Firefighters Denys and Lewis helped put out a dangerous fire and get people to safety. Barista Leila made fresh coffee for businessmen, Arthur and Musadeq. Gardner’s Elenoa, Nancy and Emily planted new flowers in Spa Gardens to keep it looking beautiful. And, Nurse Ruby gave Zack his vaccinations at the hospital.

We started this half-term getting creative in Art, making clay pinch pots. This week we have been using our colour mixing skills to paint and decorate our pinch pots. The children showed off their fantastic knowledge of what colours we need to make purple, green and orange! Arlo used brilliant language to describe the colours he made, including 'lighter' and 'darker'.

Finally, as we said last week, the Christmas countdown is now on... yay! Therefore, we are continuing to answer our big question 'What does Christmas mean to Christians?' This week we are looking at the events of the Christmas story and taking a walking tour around the hall of what happened and how the people may have been feeling.

Thank you for reading our class blog! We hope you have a lovely weekend!
