Wakeman Class Blog

Wakeman have had an extremely busy week of learning! We even had lots of fun having our school photographs taken!

In phonics (which has now progressed to bridge to spelling) we have been looking at which sounds we need to protect with a double letter. We now know that we must protect a short vowel sound with a double letter, for example 'buzz'.

During Maths this week we have been working on adding across a ten. We found this very challenging, but didn't give up, and kept on using our concrete resources to help us find our answers.

In English we have been continuing our work with Bernard the Robot with no bottom. We are really enjoying this story and find it very funny. We have been working on writing exclamatory sentences this week. We have been using 'what' and 'how' to express strong feelings in a sentence. George says 'What a fabulous car!'. Aura says 'How beautiful the sun is today!'.

In Learning Means the World we have been sailing the high seas! We listened to a song where a pirate gave us directions to find the hidden treasure! We followed this route on a world map, sailing through the five different oceans and found the treasure! To add to this, we drew a map for our very own Pirate Pete. He needed a map of Madagascar to help him find the treasure. We had to label the compass points and draw a key showing human and physical features. Tymur says 'In Madagascar the deciduous forests are found in the west.'. Tessa says 'There are some mountains in the middle of the country.'. Chloe says 'There is a rainforest in the east.'.
